Blog2- Colombia!

Come on down to visit the beautiful Caribbean coastal region of Colombia! Located in the northern part of South America, Colombia is surrounded by many bodies of water including the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. An article from Britannica states, "Because of the country's close proximity to the Equator, its climate is generally tropical and isothermal; without any real change of seasons" (Britannica paragraph 1). This means that the weather here is beautiful year-round and always a good time for the beach! Who doesn't love the beach, right? Colombia has some of the best beaches with clear blue water and white sand topping it off with amazing views.

For all my coffee lovers, Colombia has some of the best coffee in the world. Imagine sipping the best coffee and looking at the amazing views. Other than coffee, their most popular foods are traditional things like arepas, coconut rice, beans and fish or ground beef.

Let's not forget the breath-taking cites to visit here! There's a river called Caño Cristales aka "river of five colors". There are also many carnivals and festivals such as Carnaval de Barranquilla, the second largest carnival in the world. There's also numerous jungles and waterfalls where you can hike through if you're looking for an adventure. Pictured below is Ciudad Perdida, "the lost city", an ancient site that will make the best backdrop for your pictures.

Blog 3~Trinidad

Trinidad was believed to have South American migrants such as the Arawak and Carib from as early as 5,000BC. An article about the history of Trinidad quotes, " Arawak and Carib Indians prospered on the island the Amerindians called " Iere ", meaning land of the Hummingbird, until Columbus spotted the island he named for the Holy Trinity. When the Spaniards came and discovered no precious metals on Trinidad, the Amerindians were enslaved and shipped off to work on other Caribbean settlements." This quote shows that the infamous Christopher Columbus came in, spotted, claimed and named Trinidad on July 31st, 1498 basically taking the island away from the natives. Many colonials occupied Trinidad until the island gained its independence from Britain, 400+ years later, on August 31st, 1962. 1st blog- Getting started

 Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog for English Comp ll 2020. I'm a second year 19 year old nursing major. The medical field always interested me thanks to my favorite show  Grey's Anatomy.   A surgeon or doctor is a little too much for me and I'm not interested in being in the operating room or performing those task as a doctor but interested enough to watch and tend to as a nurse. I would describe myself as a very helpful and kind person which definitely fits my job description! If anyone ask me where I'm from my answer will always be New Orleans. My family was born and raised there and I visit very often so I consider that home. I love the food, culture and incredible hospitality and friendliness that the city of New Orleans offers. This of course makes me a die-hard Saints fan and we love football in my family. My hobbies include shopping and hanging out with my friends. I hope everyone stays safe and has a great semester! :)

While reading Caribe Gris I encountered difficulty with the language barrier. Although it was translated to English, I feel as if some details get lost through translation and some ideas could be lost or misinterpreted. A translation can often give the literal meaning of each word rather than capturing what a whole phrase means in the original language. I  overcame  those difficulties by using context clues to piece together the main idea. Other things I had difficulty with was keeping up with the flow of the reading. It was choppy and jumped from idea to idea  making it hard to focus and understand the big picture .     After I read Caribe Gris, my general understanding was that Columbus made  many   mistakes. Some mistakes included his dimensions and diversity of the world. To me, the main idea was there were many misconceptions about the Caribbean, due to Christopher Columbus text.      I feel that my blogs meet all the rubric criteria because I always post pictures, answer all the questions and list references. Writing assignments on a blog haven't really confused me but it can be a little stressful when trying to gather information for the topic. I think I'm putting my best efforts into my blogs and writings, I sometimes procrastinate but in my eyes I work well under pressure and when I know that the due date is near that motivates me to do better and work more efficiently. Once I understand the topic and think of a few ideas, writing usually comes easy to me and I type away. I do review and revise by using spell check and skimming over for details such as picture alignments and any other errors or imperfections i'd like to perfect. I don't mind other students reading my blogs and I'd love to hear their feedback when peer reviewing- it does make me a little nervous but i'm very interested and open to others opinions.
